About

About EnergyTally

We build calculators that keep honest books on your energy — so you can see the payback, savings and running cost for yourself, with the maths and sources in plain view.

Our mission

Energy decisions — going solar, switching to an EV, fitting a heat pump or a home battery — involve real money and a lot of conflicting claims. Most online tools either hide their assumptions or are thinly-veiled sales funnels. EnergyTally exists to do the opposite: give you a fast, private, accurate estimate and show our work.

How our calculators work

  • Private by design. Every calculation runs in your browser. Your inputs are never sent to us, and nothing personal goes in a link.
  • You stay in control. Every default value is shown and editable, so you can match the estimate to your own rates and equipment.
  • Tested logic. The calculation modules are unit-tested against normal, edge and invalid inputs.

Editorial standards

These are the principles we hold ourselves to. They are also how we earn your trust and Google’s.

  • Transparent methodology. Each calculator has a methodology page with the exact formula, every assumption, and known limitations.
  • Real, dated sources. Default figures come from authoritative bodies — for example the EIA, NREL, the U.S. Department of Energy and the EPA — each cited with the date we retrieved it. We never invent statistics or attribute numbers to sources that don’t state them.
  • No fabricated authority. We do not invent author credentials, fake “reviewed by Dr. ___” badges, or generate fake headshots. Where a real named author or independent reviewer has not yet been added, we say so plainly rather than pretend.
  • Estimates, clearly labelled. Results are estimates, not advice — see our disclaimer.
  • Corrections welcome. If you find an error in a formula or a stale figure, tell us and we’ll fix it.

Who writes this

Content is produced by the EnergyTally editorial team. You can see how every figure is derived on our methodology and sources pages.

How we’re funded

EnergyTally is free to use. We fund it with advertising, and we keep ads clearly separated from the tools so they can never be mistaken for part of a calculator. We disclose exactly how advertising and cookies work in our privacy policy.
