Privacy policy

Your calculator inputs never leave your device. This page explains what that means in practice, and how cookies and advertising work on EnergyTally.

The short version

  • Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type into a calculator are never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses or other personal details unless you choose to email us.
  • We use Google AdSense for advertising and Google Tag Manager to load analytics and advertising tags. These set cookies; where required, your consent choices govern them, and you can change them any time via “Cookie settings”.

Calculator data stays on your device

Our calculators are built so that all computation happens client-side, in your web browser. When you enter figures — your electricity rate, mileage, system size and so on — those values are used only to display your result on your screen. They are not sent to a server, logged, or stored by us. If you use a shareable result link, only the abstract numeric inputs are encoded in the URL; we never put personal information in a link.

To make the calculators easier to use, we may save your preferences — such as your light/dark theme and an optional “energy profile” (your state or ZIP and a typical bill) — in your browser’s local storage. This stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and you can clear it any time from the calculator or your browser settings.

Information processed automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider may process limited technical information needed to deliver pages and protect the service — for example your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is standard server log information used for security and reliability.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. They fall into three groups:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function and to remember your consent and theme choices. These do not require consent.
  • Analytics — if enabled, these help us understand which calculators are useful, in aggregate. Set only with your consent.
  • Advertising — set by Google and its partners to serve and measure ads. Set only with your consent. See below.

Analytics & tag management

We use Google Tag Manager to load and manage tags (such as analytics and advertising). Tag Manager itself doesn’t set advertising cookies, but the tags it loads — including Google AdSense — may. Where required, these are governed by your consent via Google’s consent tools; manage your choices any time with the “Cookie settings” control in the footer.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We fund this free site with advertising delivered by Google AdSense:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in the EEA/UK, at youronlinechoices.eu.

Consent (EEA, UK and beyond)

Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), advertising and analytics are governed by your consent through Google’s certified consent tools and Consent Mode, and you can review or withdraw consent at any time through the “Cookie settings” control.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing. Because we deliberately collect almost no personal data, most requests will be straightforward — contact us at hello@energytally.com and we will respond.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children.

We may update this policy as the site evolves. We will revise the “last updated” date above when we do.
